The January transfer window represented a chance for Southampton to give their season a much-needed shot to the arm, and that appeared to come in the form of striker signing Guido Carrillo – who is expected to help arrest the club’s modest goal total in the Premier League this season.
But many felt Southampton needed to bring in more bodies to move themselves clear of relegation danger and it’s not as if the south coast outfit didn’t have money to spend after selling star centre-back Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool – in fact, they had a total net profit of £51.12million at the end of the transfer window according to Transfermarkt.
With that in mind, we asked Southampton fans last week whether they were pleased with their club’s efforts during the January transfer window and the answer was a resounding no, with just 6% of those who took part in our poll content with Saints’ mid-season business.
