The Brazilian accidentally put the ball into his own net after William Saliba made a poor defensive decision, with the Frenchman trying to shield a through ball back to Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya despite being under pressure from Diogo Jota. The Liverpool forward then managed to steal in and play the ball across goal, and Gabriel scored an own goal as it deflected in off his hand.

The Gunners were the more dominant side in the first 45 minutes of the match and had taken the lead through Bukayo Saka's strike in the 14th minute. Just before conceding the goal, Mikel Arteta's side could have doubled their tally as Gabriel Martinelli failed to convert an easy chance from a close range.

Arsenal are due back in Premier League action away at West Ham on February 11, while Liverpool are set to host Burnley a day earlier. Both sides are currently pushing hard to dethrone reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
