Everton want to tie their long-standing No 1 stopper Pickford down to another long-term deal, according to the BBC. Pickford has earned cult-hero status since his arrival from Sunderland in 2017, for a then-record £30 million ($40.5m). And the Merseysiders want the 31-year-old to extend his stay even further – potentially up to his retirement.

It's been a rollercoaster eight years for Pickford at Everton, he's worked under nine managers – including caretakers – and seen a change of ownership. Allied to the Toffees' flirtations with relegation, it has certainly not been plain sailing. But David Moyes has returned and they've enjoyed two wins at the brand new Hill Dickinson stadium.

There's a dispute over who the most-expensive British goalkeeper is. Burnley claim Manchester City recently paid £31 million, pus add-ons and included a sell-on clause for James Trafford, which would eclipse the £30m the Toffees paid for Pickford. But City claim they paid a mere £27m for Trafford.
