Michael Owen has told BT Sport (via The Daily Express) that this Liverpool team can rival the great Manchester United teams, as well as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
What did he say?
The former Reds striker was covering the Anfield outfit’s game against RB Salzburg in the Champions League for the TV channel, and there was a discussion about just how good this side is.
The 39-year-old was glowing in his appraisal of Jurgen Klopp’s men, and he said: “This is one of the best ever club teams we’ve ever seen in our lifetime.
“It’s a phenomenal team and it’s right up there with the great Man Utd teams, Chelsea under Jose, Man City, it’s just an unbelievable team.”
Prem or bust
There is no doubt that this Liverpool team will take some beating. The records are already beginning to fall – they are currently in the middle of a 33-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, for example, which is the longest in the club’s history. With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk on top form, there is almost no limit as to how far they can go.

However, there is one thing that is stopping them from matching those other sides – the lack of a Premier League title. All of those others group of players that were mentioned by the former England international topped the table come the end of the season, cementing their places in the competition’s history.
Whilst the Reds were agonisingly close to lifting the trophy last term, they still ended up in second place behind Manchester City. The 97 points they had may be more than any other second-placed team in the division’s history, but the football annals will only remember who was first.
As it looks now, this may well be Liverpool’s year. After all, they do lead the way by eight points from Leicester City, whilst the champions are 14 points adrift. As long as they can keep their heads towards the business end of the campaign, then they should lift the title. Then, they can enter the discussion of the best Premier League side of all time – but not a minute before.
